Fandom: Harry Potter
Spoilers?: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Wallpaper?: 1024x768
Link to Art: http://evil-hand-issues.com/wallpaper/show/wanna_fuck.php
Description of why you like it: Dude, I can't really comment on the process or anything like that but...Just click it, it's good for a laugh.

Fandom: Alias
Spoilers?: Syd/Lauren. Mmmm...
Wallpaper?: 800x600
Link to Art: http://www.fateful-illusions.net/alias.jpg
Description of why you like it: Most of my reasons usually boil down to use of color and effective atmosphere, and it's none different this time around. The red is used effectivly here, giving a dreamy haze to the main manip and quickly burning at the edges of where the more angsty glances peek out at you from sideways glances.

Fandom: Celebrity
Spoilers?: Cate Blanchett
Wallpaper?: 1024x768
Link to Art: http://www.krisnreine.com/wall/cate-classic.jpg
Description of why you like it: Mmmmm, atmosphere. And oh does this one have it in spades. It's in black and white, and yet the picture feels so warm. There's depth achieved here, with the placement of pictures and the use of texture and typography. I love the upper part, where the light bleeds through what looks like a refracted window pain. Pretty with the pretty.

Fandom: Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Spoilers?: Movie
Wallpaper?: 1024x768
Link to Art: http://lucid.lunacy.nu/hedwigcorpse.gif
Description of why you like it: This movie rocked my socks, and it's always great to have an obscure, slightly terrifying rockstar on your desktop that makes your roomate question their sexuality. The way she supersaturated the hair vs. the skin tone really gives the wallpaper a seedy, backstage edge. The kinetic image on the right, paired with the slightly darker/caught-off-guard image on the left is inspired.

Artist's Webpage: http://www.heroinechic.net/
Fandom: Firefly
Spoilers?: River/Serenity
Wallpaper?: 1024x768
Link to Art: http://www.heroinechic.net/art/shewalks.jpg
Description of why you like it: She's been making a variety of Farscape and Firefly art for awhile, but of all the wonderful character reflections she's done, I love this one the most. It reminds me of the special on the DVDs, the one about the ship as a character in and of itself. Isolde pulls off spectacular color and warmth to what is usually characterized as very mechanical and cold. The image of River, looking up as light streams through is just. Yeah, pretty. You knew it was coming.

Artist's Name: saava
Artist's Webpage: http://www.body-image.net/
Fandom: Farscape
Spoilers?: John/Harvey
Wallpaper?: 1024x768
Link to Art: http://www.body-image.net/farscape/jh-wp1.jpg
Description of why you like it: I think I already left a lengthy essay in her journal detailing while I love it so much, so I guess I'll just paraphrase here. I love the text, and not only because it looks pretty. It fits into the picture seamlessly and makes perfect sense without it being to obvious. The angles she chose for John and Harvey are awesome, the off center glances to the left. Harvey is deliciously menacing even in black and white and the red stripe through the bottom have is jarring enough to work. The Shadowed!John in the background I noticed only the second time around while it was sitting on my desktop and it kinda sorta freaked me out. But I'm a pussy so that may not be a big deal. Oh, and the spidey!sense like shape around John's head? Yeah, here it comes...awesome.

Tomorrow, some more Alias art, some more Firefly and some more pretty. And probably a few misspellings and effusive central valley girl praise! Like totally awesome dudes!

Girls Girls Girls. And Xander. And Seth. [Jan. 29th, 2004|06:29 pm]

Season 2 Xander/Seth would have been hot. It really would've.

Artist's Webpage: http://www.nothing-satisfies.net/
Fandom: Buffy
Spoilers?: Buffy/Xander
Wallpaper?: 800x600
Link to Art: http://www.nothing-satisfies.net/desire.jpg
Description of why you like it: Mmmm...texture. I can't do texture, a lot of people can't do texture, so when there's perfect texture? It's all sorts of goodness. I love the burned feel and how the edges are more stylized versus the ever popular torn. The entire piece is stylized, even the mock-paper texture and it gives it a seedy feel that works with the picture choices. And that left picture of Xander is *smoking*. That's all anybody really needs, isn't it?

Description of why you like it: Blue Suzanne frequently blows the board member's minds with her use of color and atmosphere. She does accomplished profile pieces, but this was one of her first episode/collage pieces that rocked my socks. I love the partitioning of color, of screen caps. Even if you don't like Season 7 (raises hand) you have to marvel at the atmosphere. It's just. Yeah.

Fandom: The OC
Spoilers?: Seth/Summer, wot a loser am I!
Wallpaper?: 800x600
Link to Art: http://wallpaper.tenuous-grip.com/bandages.jpg
Description of why you like it: Well, I could just splooge on the choice of lyrics alone but it's not just that. The red is graphically intensive and it *works*. I love the use of the symbols and the combination of square shapes versus curved overlays. The treatment of the photographs themselves are gorgeous and I love that she attempted to match the saturation and colors of two seperate photo sessions.

**

Artist's Name: Reginilicious
Artist's Webpage: hFound it through Bored Now. She doesn't have her page up.
Fandom: Buffy
Spoilers?: Cordy/Buffy
Wallpaper?: 1024x768, Mac
Link to Art: http://www.tough-luck.net/graphically/skanks1024.jpg
Description of why you like it: It's called 'Skanks'! Dude, you know it must be hot. And how. I actually like the decision to use a basic sepia hue, versus saturating the skin colors. It blends well with the dirty hotel texture/wallpaper in the background and the two pictures used in the manip complement each other perfectly.

Artist's Name: Angie
Artist's Webpage: http://photogenic.luminesce-impression.com
Fandom: Buffy
Spoilers?: Cordy/Harm/Bubbles
Wallpaper?: 1024x768, Mac-y
Link to Art: http://photogenic.luminesce-impression.com/cordyharm2-3.jpg
Description of why you like it: Dude, this shit is hot. It really is. The dark red color complements nicely the tanned skin of Harmony (a vampire) and Cordy (a coma-...pire.) the two people who haven't seen sun it quite awhile. But that's not the only thing. The use of diagonal lines is strong here, vs. the usual soft texture effect that's so popular with icons nowadays. It's a nice, distinct shift and it really adds to the skank-o-licious hotness that already exists. And Angie added bubbles. To Cordy. That means there were bathtubs and touching and that is *always* a cool thing. Awesome manip, and flawless presentation. You really can't ask for more.

Spoilers?: Nope, unless you've missed how fucking *hot* this chick is...
Wallpaper?: 800x600
Link to Art: http://www.nightmeadow.com/artsy/nelart/colorscarlett.jpg
Description of why you like it: She doesn't know this, but I pimp this baby to whomever asks me to make a Scarlett wp. This one blows my mind. It really does, and I'm not just saying that. I *love* the color, I mean, with my ovaries, that's how much. The splotches of color give it a very watercolored texture, but paired with the extreme saturation gives it a very lush, rich look. The text is unobtrusive and actually *works* with the piece rather than fight for space, and I LOVE the slight texture contributed by the sine dots and the little boxes. I especially love how smooth her skin is, which is hard to get without messing with the frame of the face. Awesome. Yes.

Fandom: Buffy (Faith)
Spoilers?: Nope, unless you've missed how fucking *hot* this chick is...
Wallpaper?: 800x600, 1024x768, Mac

Description of why you like it: Para consistently makes unique and accomplished manips which I will recc at a later date for those that don't devour her site tonight. When the new Eliza Dushku pics from Entertainment Weekly came out, there was a flurry of new work that took advantage of the mood and color of the picture. Para, however, took it a step further, and rather than just accentuate the picture and its environment, but she created a complimentary environment along with it. There's actual meaning and metaphor going on behind the picture. The text is hard to see, but that's part of the point, it's hidden and slightly twisted by the environment. I fucking love that. And the upper left with the reflected light, the slight shadow to the right. Just. Guh. It's haunting and it'll creep you out if you stare at it too long. Click, just do it.

Fandom: Angel, Noir
Spoilers?: Nope, not relaly
Wallpaper?: No, 800x648
Link to Art: http://www.vrya.net/ts/popup.php?artid=256
Description of why you like it: This is just so frickin' cool. I mean, really, really cool. It oozes the darkness of old detective novels, penny dreadfuls with viscious dames and cool hats. Angel, for all the pansy ass he can be, is presented gloriously in his element. The two tone sepia paired with the vector-y clean texture enhances the shadows that make noir so awesome. LA acts like a character onto itself, and embodies the characters that live within her. This is a classic Vyra collage enhanced by a wonderfully new techinique.

Wallpaper?: 800x600
Link to Art: http://photogenic.luminesce-impression.com/emmett2-2.jpg
Description of why you like it: This is just so stylistic with a cute(!!!) logo and a wonderfully stylistic use of color. It's hard to use only two pictures in what's basically a collage, but she manages to pull it off. It's the combination of the color scheme, the logo and the texture it gives it a smooth, advertisment feel. It's all sorts of awesome.

I've decided to put together a few reccs to start this off, stuff that's been in my Wallpaper folder for awhile now.

Artist's Name: marina
Artist's Webpage: http://marina.cobwebby.net/overexposed
Fandom: Alias
Spoilers: N/A
Wallpaper: 1024x768, 800x600 on site, PC
Link to Art: http://marina.cobwebby.net/overexposed/collages/lethal.jpg
Description of why you like it:
There's a distinct Marina style that isn't hard to miss, but the very first wallpaper I saw was this one, and it's been on my wallpaper rotation ever since. I think the best thing about this piece is the atmosphere, it's very distinct and ultimately creepy as hell. The desaturation of color paired with the sepia tone on the edges gives it that burned/acid feel. The text is perfectly placed with the symbols. It's a simple wallpaper but it's invocative of much more.
**

Artist's Name: Aanix
Artist's Webpage: http://aanix.purplekisses.org
Fandom: Buffy
Spoilers: Once More With Feeling
Wallpaper: 1024x768, 800x600 on site, PC
Link to Art: http://aanix.purplekisses.org/graphics/art/walls/retro-pastiche-large.jpg
Description of why you like it:
When Aanix posted this I was floored, along with pretty much everyone else on Bored Now. It's so....perfect? Can I use that word even? She pulls off the gimmick really well, giving the blend a movie poster feel. The text and the placement of the pictures is perfect and the way the colors complement not only the poster, but the wall gives everything a smooth, slick feel. And that scene makes me feel damn happy anyway, so all in all, it makes a perfect complement to your desktop, with ample room for icons on either a Mac or PC.

Spoilers: N/A
Wallpaper: 800x600
Link to Art: http://rr.iridescentglow.com/smvl/smvl_slash/lanachloe01.jpg (site doesn't allow direct linking, cut and paste)
Description of why you like it:
Lana/Chloe is probably my favorite couple off of Smallville, so when I was surfing around Nicola's site, I was lucky to stumble upon this. This is what I would call 'fricken awesome'. I'm a sucker for colors, and this piece manages to showcase often bright, ungainly colors, in a pleasing blend. I love the bleed effect she's got going on in the background and the manip itself is just so goddamn fun.
**

Artist's Name: Jenni Lou
Artist's Webpage: http://www.fractured-simplicity.net/
Fandom: Angel
Spoilers: N/A
Wallpaper: 1024x768
Link to Art: http://www.fractured-simplicity.net/daydreaming/images/art/btvs-ats_misc/cordy2.jpg
Description of why you like it:
Sometimes what really gets me is the choice of manip an artist chooses to use. In this case, Jenni Lou used a base that didn't have, shall we say, an optimal angle. Yet she managed to pull off a flawless manip and then presented in one of the most unique ways possible. Manippers have the tendency to showcase the manip, rather then find a way to effectively blend it in with a background. I do this all the time. But Jenni wasn't afraid to include a variety of colored screens and shapes and it shows. I love the bright colors on this, and the way she included the text blows my mind. Love it.

Artist's Name: blurry venus

Fandom: Alias
Spoilers: N/A
Wallpaper: 1024x768
Link to Art: http://blurry.starnickel.com/svbreak.gif
Description of why you like it:
This is a perfect example of how an artist can use a single image in new and unique ways within a single wallpaper. This consistently blows my mind, each time I look at it I spot another permutation of the same picture. Not only was it an awesome manip, she used it to achieve such a creepy/dark mood perfectly. I love the text, the way it's split in half and fits the totally schizoid feeling of the background.

I'll post more later tonight, but somehow I think I'm all preaching to the choir here...

Break out the bubbly. [Jan. 26th, 2004|07:21 pm]

desktop_splooge wants to serve you by bringing to your friends page everyday links to various forms of wallpaper fanart that, to us, look really fucking cool. The only thing is that any fanart/wallpapers/etc linked should be DIGITAL ONLY. It can be drawn, and then digitally painted, made from photographs and then PS'd the hell out of it, or created entirely on the computer, whatever, but it must be DIGITAL. And if possible, a wallpaper. But it doesn't have to be if you really think it's just that awesome.

The goal is to have people discover new artists and to describe what they found awesome about that piece. We ask only one thing, and that is that you follow this simple format:

**

Artist's Name:
Artist's Webpage: (link form) and if not, a link to the forum page or message board that you found it in.
Fandom:
Spoilers?:
Wallpaper?: If so, size? Mac/PC
Link to Art:
Description of why you like it:

**

The description is the second most important thing because it's always fascinating to hear *why* something rocks your world as much as it is to actually see it.

Remember, no direct linking please, since this other people's art and they may not know you love it so much that you're being all pimp-o-riffic. Also, we don't want to fuck up people's friends pages.

So please, be respectful, try not to flame anyone for what they think is pretty damn cool, and dude, get with the pimpin'.

So, a summary, shall we?

Rules:
1) Must be made using a computer. That means either photoshop, paint shop pro, maya or any other digital image editing program. Why? Because there are plenty other communities for hand-drawn (hpart and hpsmart, for example).

2)Must follow format outlined above. Please, it just makes everyone's viewing experiance nice. And you wouldn't want to be not nice, would you?

3)It doesn't have to be designed as a wallpaper, but it would be nice. But if something is so cool and it's not a wallpaper, we won't jump all up in your biz-ness. Don't worry too much about it.
